Three Ways to Celebrate Veterans Day This Year
November 11, Veteran’s Day, is usually celebrated with parades and other events honoring our veterans. This year the pandemic has put a pause to many of these public traditional celebrations, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t honor our veterans from home.
Here are three ways to observe the holiday with your family.
Fly the Flag
One of the easiest ways to show your support for veterans is to hang up your American flag. Don’t know the proper way to fly the flag? Check out flag etiquette here.
Donate to, or Volunteer at, an Organization Supporting Veterans
There are many worthy causes supporting our veterans that can benefit from your money or time. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is dedicated to veteran health care, benefits, national cemeteries, and preparedness. You can donate to and/or find volunteer opportunities at the VA: https://www.volunteer.va.gov/apps/VolunteerNow/.
Consider donating to nonprofit organizations that directly benefit veterans: Pets for Vets connects veterans with pets in need, helping them to create new beginnings together and The Wounded Warrior Project provides services and medical help to those in need of physical or mental medical help. Looking for memorable and unique holiday gifts? Start your holiday shopping and also help veterans: Homes For Our Troops, which builds and donates custom houses to severely injured veterans, is holding its 4th annual celebrity auction November 10-17 on eBay.
Interested in volunteering? Although the pandemic has curtailed many direct ways to reach out to veterans, there are still many opportunities to participate in smaller socially distant groups or from your home virtually online. From preparing meals to careers working with military vets, here is a great current resource that lists organizations that offer volunteer opportunities.
Call or Send a Message to the Veterans You Know
If you know a veteran or a military member, consider calling them to express your gratitude.
On a personal note, I’d like to thank my family members Adrian (Marine), Richard(Air Force) and my husband, Felipe (Navy), for their service.
On behalf of ARIA Wealth, thank you to my fellow advisor colleagues Jim (Navy), Chuck (Army), and Russ (Navy) for your service to our country and dedication to your clients.
And to our clients who are veterans, we are grateful for your service today and always. It is our honor to serve you!
